Our Story

A Story of Faith and Transformation

Copy of newhope 45 New Hope Community Church began with a bold vision in October 1972. From the roof of a snack shack at the 82nd Avenue Drive-in Theater, Founding Pastor Dale Galloway shared his dream of creating a church where anyone, regardless of their past, could find hope and belonging.

For the first ten years, New Hope was a church on the move. Meeting in daycares, gyms, movie theaters, and at Warner Pacific College, the church embraced its motto: “Pioneers, not settlers.” As the congregation grew, Pastor Dale reminded everyone, “It is not the size nor the site that makes a church great, but the Spirit of God’s love.”

In 1981, New Hope opened its first building, a space that would soon be outgrown. By 1987, the church built an expansive facility along Highway 205 in the growing area of Clackamas/Happy Valley. For nearly 40 years, this building served as a hub for life-changing ministries, including recovery programs, divorce care, and small groups.

A Bold Move Toward the Future

In 2018, with John Rosensteel as Lead Pastor, the leadership team decided to sell the church’s building to better align with its mission. The process was challenging, spanning two years. The sale was scheduled to close but then the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

By God’s grace, in the uncertainty of those times, the sale closed as planned, and though the church had no immediate home, God provided. In April 2020, Mt. Scott Church of God reached out, and merger talks began. By January 2021, the two churches officially became one family, and in-person gatherings were launched in the new location.

Better Together: A New Chapter

Believing that neighborhood-centric churches were key but also fragile on their own, New Hope forged a deep partnership with Willamette Christian Church, a multi-site church in the Portland area. In 2024, After years of prayer and consideration, New Hope became part of  one church with WCC of west Linn, OR, Beaverton Christian, and Hope City in Milwaukie.

In 2025, All City Church in SE Portland joined the “Better Together” family, expanding our reach and strengthening our shared mission. Sharing one mission, one vision, values, governance and DNA, we are one church that exists to inspire people know, love, and follow Jesus.
